stop it or you'll go blind

this theme will identify and expose situations where perfectly good buildings, new and sometimes not so new, have been ruined by excessive attention to "les nouvelles idees" , and perhaps one or two too many starchitecture magazines and too much fancy computer generated imagery!!  a bit cynical, i guess, but a good building is a good building, and a good architect should know better!!

so here we have a quite nicely put together affair, albeit a little "a la renzo". the curtain wall works well and is reflective of earlier campus buildings (this is the new business school at UWA) as well as taking us on a little sentimental journey to Lever House in NYC. the random openings in the circular section are worrisome and indicative of worse to come! horribly, it sort of looks like SOM meets Libeskind meets CC&N (authors of the "silver city" in east perth)

this carbuncle, adjacent to the curtain walled entry, defies me. I am guessing it houses a lecture theatre, and is a gesture to the little expressionist building elsewhere on campus, or a really bad homage to FOG ( he sure has a lot to answer for!!) it certainly f***s up an otherwise nicely proportioned entrance.

around the corner we go, and it gets worse. a photo etched wall of aluminium and copper colours with more random openings.  note the piano references!
